The gift industry concentrated assault "created in China"
From October 21st to 24th, the 18th China (Shenzhen) International Toys and Gifts Fair took place at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center. Spanning over 100,000 square meters, the event featured a wide range of pavilions showcasing products from various light industries, including textiles and home appliances. Nearly 3,000 companies participated, presenting a variety of first-time new products that captured the attention of visitors and buyers.
As one of the largest gift exhibitions in the country, the Shenzhen Autumn Gift Show serves as a key platform for launching year-end gifts and promoting independent innovation. It not only highlights emerging trends in the industry but also sets the stage for future gift designs. However, many domestic gift companies have long struggled with the so-called “three non-existencesâ€â€”lack of technological innovation, no competitive product design or R&D capabilities, and no brands with independent intellectual property rights. These challenges have hindered their growth and global competitiveness.
This year, with the influence of the Shanghai World Expo, many Chinese gift companies have made significant strides in R&D and design. The number of licensed products has grown substantially, with over 16,000 items across 29 categories. During the economic downturn, these companies not only expanded into both domestic and international markets but also placed greater emphasis on building strong, independent brands. As the post-World Expo momentum continues, the industry is expected to see more breakthroughs and innovations.
In recent years, independent innovation in the gift sector has shown remarkable progress. The Shenzhen Gifts Exhibition, with its extensive experience, offers tailored support in areas like channel development, brand exposure, and design innovation. This helps exhibitors enhance their creativity and strengthen their brand presence.
Intellectual property protection remains a central focus. Many new products launched at the fair are backed by original designs and legal protections. Innovation and branding have long been two major gaps in China’s transition from "Made in China" to "Created in China." To bridge this gap, the industry must invest in advanced manufacturing technologies and materials while developing a robust soft value system that supports true innovation and brand identity.
At this year's event, several exhibitors showcased unique and creative designs. For example, Tiancai Hexuan introduced a product inspired by the Millennium Baoyu, while Universiade UU combined mosaics, glazed ceramics, and cloisonné enamels to create a modern yet culturally rich piece. Wanhua Electronics unveiled the world’s first Bluetooth-powered metal MP3 watch, which won the ICT Boutique Invention Award and was even associated with the Shenzhou VI space mission. Bahong Electronics blended traditional porcelain craftsmanship with modern kitchen appliances, introducing a stylish ceramic soy milk maker.
To encourage originality and protect intellectual property, the organizers implemented strict measures, including company qualifications checks and rejecting suspected infringing products. An on-site intellectual property protection office, staffed by a full-time lawyer, helped resolve disputes efficiently and ensured a fair environment for all participants.
Additionally, the fair offered various services, such as fashion trend conferences, industry award selections, and free access for visitors from the Pearl River Delta region. Over the four-day event, it is expected to attract around 120,000 domestic and international buyers, making it a major hub for new product launches and industry networking.
