Nano-flame retardant PP technology through technical appraisal

The nano-flame retardant polypropylene special material technology jointly developed by Sinopec Wuhan Petrochemical Plant and Huazhong University of Science and Technology has passed the technical appraisal organized by Hubei Province. This technology used the flame retardant effect of PP on Sb2O3 for the first time, and at the same time, it realized PP reinforced, toughened, and obtained PP-based nanocomposites with excellent flame retardant and mechanical properties. After filling 5% of nano-Sb2O3, its flame retardant performance reached V-0 grade, impact strength was 20.0-21.3 kJ/m2, tensile strength was 33.7-34.4 MPa, and tensile modulus was 1.87-2.20 GPa. This technology uses in-situ copolymerization method to cover the surface of nano-Sb2O3 polyacrylate polymer, and then compounded with PP to solve the problem of nano-particle agglomeration, which is conducive to the dispersion of Sb2O3 in the polymer matrix. The obtained nano-flame-retardant PP can be used as a PP-specific material, and not only can achieve the engineering and high-performance through PP, but also can achieve the function of PP.
