Printing and dyeing Tips │ level three elements of dyeing 【Basic knowledge】

In order to obtain a level dyeing effect, the following three elements must be considered when setting the dyeing conditions:

1 The dyeing speed is controlled below the levelling speed of the dyeing device so that the dye can uniformly adsorb the dyed material;

2 to ensure the migration of adsorbed dyes;

3 Ensure the temperature and time for the dye to diffuse inside the fiber.

In particular, for the proper management of 1, it is important to have information on the dyeing speed of the dyeing process used.

During dyeing, the dyeing process of the dye in the dyeing bath is divided into:

1 The dye moves from the dye bath to the fiber side;

2 The dye is adsorbed on the surface of the fiber;

3 The adsorbed dye diffuses inside the fiber.

The rate control stage of dyeing refers to the diffusion rate of the dye inside the fiber. In general dyeing, due to the correlation between the diffusion rate and the dyeing speed, the research on the dyeing speed is mainly focused on the diffusion rate. However, in actual production, the reason for affecting the speed of dyeing is not only the diffusion speed, but also the very close relationship with the dye bath, the absolute amount of dye adsorbed on the fiber surface, and the dyeing concentration. Therefore, the dyeing speed must be set according to the dye uptake rate curve (absorption rate curve) measured in the actual dyeing.

It is worth mentioning that the dyeing rate curve is generally determined based on the amount of dye actually dyed into the fiber, but the amount of dye adsorbed on the surface of the fiber must also be considered in order to obtain the leveling effect.

Most dyes have very little difference between the absorption curve and the dyeing curve (fixed curve) due to the small difference between the amount of dye adsorbed on the fiber surface and the amount of dye to be dyed. Even if the analysis is based on the dyeing curve (fixed curve), no substantial problem will occur. The absorption curve of reactive dyes, etc. is completely different from the dyeing curve (fixed curve). In this case, it is not based on the dyeing curve (fixed curve), but must be based on the absorption curve. This is very important.
