When we first introduced the Oliver + S discussion forums a few years back, we had no idea it would evolve into something as vibrant and meaningful as it has become today. Our initial goal was straightforward: to create a go-to place for people interested in sewing projects using our patterns. Over time, though, the forums have transformed into far more than that. Watching so many of you connect with fellow sewists has been incredibly rewarding. Last week marked a significant milestone with the release of the first major update to the forums in quite a while. For this project, we aimed to introduce fresh features and functionalities that would encourage even deeper interactions among users and foster a stronger sense of community. To achieve this, we emphasized enabling users to craft detailed profiles that reflect who they are and what they're passionate about, helping others get to know them better. Additionally, we've added tools to enhance communication between users and ensure you receive updates on topics that genuinely interest you.
There are countless exciting elements waiting for you to explore, but here are some of the standout additions:
- You can now set up a personal profile detailing your background and hobbies. You can include links to your social media accounts and upload an avatar to personalize your presence across the site. Here's my public profile.
- Receiving notifications about replies to your forum posts is now simpler than ever. You can customize your settings to get email alerts for different types of activities.
- Connecting with friends has never been easier. By sending friendship requests, you can access a dedicated feed showcasing only your friends' activities, making it easier to stay updated on their progress.
- Messaging capabilities have been enhanced. You can now exchange both public and private messages directly within the platform.
- Forum posts now support "@mentions," which makes it effortless to draw attention to specific comments or bring attention to mentions of yourself.
- Uploading images directly into your posts is now supported, adding a dynamic visual element to your contributions.
- We've also worked on improving the overall user interface, making it sleeker and more visually appealing.

All existing users retain their current usernames and passwords to log into the updated forums. Once you log in, you'll be able to start building your profile, and your membership status will automatically upgrade to Member.
