When we first launched the Oliver + S discussion forums a few years back, we never imagined it would evolve into what it is today. Our original goal was to create a go-to resource for anyone interested in sewing with our patterns. While we achieved that, the forums quickly became much more than that. Watching all of you connect with fellow Oliver + S sewists has been incredibly rewarding. Over time, the forums transformed into a vibrant digital town square where members from all over the world gather to share their experiences.
Last week, we rolled out the first significant update to the forums in quite a while. Our aim with this project was to introduce new features and functionalities that would strengthen connections among users and foster an even stronger sense of community. To achieve this, we focused on enabling users to create detailed profiles that reflect who they are and what they're passionate about. Additionally, we introduced tools to enhance communication between members and ensure you receive updates tailored to your preferences.
There’s plenty to explore, but here are some standout additions:
- You can now set up a comprehensive profile detailing your interests and hobbies. Add links to your other social media accounts and upload an avatar to make your presence recognizable across the site. Check out my profile as an example.
- Notifications have been streamlined so you can easily stay updated whenever someone replies to your posts. Customize your settings to receive email alerts based on specific activities.
- Friendships are now possible through friend requests. This creates a dedicated feed showcasing only the activities of your selected friends, helping you keep tabs on those whose updates matter most to you.
- Messaging capabilities have been enhanced, allowing you to exchange both public and private messages directly within the platform.
- Forum posts now support @mentions, which simplifies calling attention to specific comments or letting you know when others mention you.
- Uploading images to your posts is now supported, adding a richer visual element to discussions.
- We’ve also worked hard to improve the overall user experience, making navigation smoother and visuals more engaging.
These are just some of the exciting changes we’ve implemented. There’s still more to come—stay tuned for additional updates in the near future!
Existing users will retain their current usernames and passwords to access the revamped forums. After logging in, you’ll be able to begin building your profile, and your account will automatically be upgraded to Member status.
